Jima, Abdisa Olkeba (2022). Significance and Restraint of Indigenous Knowledge Inclusion in Ethiopian Higher Education Curriculum: In Focus Gadaa System. Cogent Education, v9 n1 Article 2046241. The issues of indigenous knowledge (IK) inclusion in formal education have gotten academic debates recently. Some scholars argue that western education is responsible for IKs attrition. Others refute that IK enriches modern education. Ethiopia endows with varieties of IKs. Gadaa system is one of the Ethiopians IKs. The country counted more than a century since it adopted modern education. However, it has not included IK in the higher education curriculum. It needs the attention of scholars to explore the importance of IK inclusion in the education curriculum and encountered challenges. This study addresses the knowledge gaps regarding the significance and restraint of IK inclusion in the Ethiopian education curriculum focusing on the Gadaa system. S√§fstr√∂m, Carl Anders (2022). Teaching Militant Humility against the Aggressions of a Neoliberal World. Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, v43 n5 p686-701. This article develops a militant teaching humility regarding the foundational aggression and violence of a neoliberal worldview within late capitalism. Mainly the article shows how such aggressions and violence take shape as schooling the self-interested consumer within a school market. This article also shows how such self-interest understands education in terms of individualism, comparison, and competition, ultimately leading to the destruction of the social fabric of the common good of democracies. The teaching strategy identified highlights the humility and discipline needed to transform the aggression and violence of late capitalism into a non-violent but consistent strategy for democratization. Dichter, Harriet; Sterman, Sara Vernon (1997). Use of Subsidized Child Care by Philadelphia Families: Findings and Discussion. The study examined the consequences of delay in enrollment in subsidized child care and the impact of funding on the choices and perceived opportunities of families once they begin receiving child care subsidies. Subjects were 106 working families in Philadelphia who are either using subsidized child care or who are waiting to enroll in the subsidized child care program. During the telephone interviews, 97.2 percent of respondents described themselves as sole providers, 51.9 percent reported having some college education, 81.1 percent were African-American, and 55 percent reported requesting or having care for only one child. Interviewed families reported that productivity at work was promoted through the child care subsidy program; parental peace of mind was greatly enhanced; and more funds were available to meet basic needs for food, shelter, and health care. Journal of Transformative Education, v21 n1 p59-83 Jan. This article explores learning processes that underpin ecovillages as place based 'sustainability initiatives'. Through the theoretical lens of place- based transformative learning (PBTL), developed in earlier work (Pisters et al., 2019, 2020), empirical data from life-story interviews and photovoice sessions from three ecovillages is analysed and discussed. The results support, illustrate and deepen the meaning of the four dimensions of the theoretical framework: connection to place, compassionate connection, creativity and transgression. Disabled youth can be misunderstood and experience harsh discipline and are at increased risk for negative outcomes, yet little research includes their voices. METHODS: Disabled adult perspectives (N = 9) regarding past school discipline experiences were explored employing qualitative descriptive methodology framed by the Peace and Power Conceptual Model. Peace-Power versus Power-Over-Powers involve actions/behaviors reflecting critical emancipation or oppression of those in power. Previous statistical studies found that polymathic networks of vocational and avocational interest predominate among Nobel Prize winners, discriminating them from less-successful peers. Here we confirm qualitatively and phenomenologically that this multidisciplinarity is a considered creative strategy. Peers often recognize Nobel laureates as "Renaissance" intellects; Nobel Prize committees often award their prizes for transdisciplinarity and integration; Nobel laureates often describe their polymathy as conscious choice to optimize creative potential.
